Richy is a Project Manager and Utility Coordinator for KCI Associates. His background has been working with utility companies and municipalities throughout NC and SC to relocate water, sewer, telephone, gas, cable TV and power for highway projects. Richy is an Army veteran of the Persian Gulf War and is currently the Judge Advocate for Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10001 in Raleigh. After leaving the military, Richy graduated from NC State with a B.A. in Political Science. Richy is a Deacon at Knightdale Baptist Church and coaches Upward Basketball. He is married to Rena and they have a 4 year old daughter, Cassidy.
A resident of Knightdale since 1999, Richy is aware of the potential that Knightdale possesses. He believes that it is important that Knightdale grows, however, we must be careful to manage our growth. Richy is a member of Knightdale’s “Old Town” Oversight Committee. This committee will work to implement a revitalization and preservation plan for downtown. The “small town” feel is a large part of Knightdale’s charm and appeal. In order to preserve this, the “Old Town” area of downtown needs to be revitalized with quaint shops and offices to re-capture the town’s past.
We must also work to provide our Public Safety Department with the latest technology and resources to ensure Knightdale continues to be a safe place to live and raise a family. We have taken proper steps toward this end with the enactment of a curfew. As a town we must continue to find ways to make our community safe to residents and visitors. It is up to each one of us through Community Watch programs to keep our town safe.
We must strive to ensure that our town remains an attractive place to live and visit. The citizens and public officials must ensure that the town’s codes are enforced. We must also continue to review our codes and make sure that they are meeting the needs of our townspeople.
Open space is becoming more critical each day. Any where we have open space enhances Knightdale’s charm and appeal. These are places for families to relax and enjoy outdoor recreation. Facilities would provide parks, trails, and picnic areas. The availability of open spaces also strengthens our community ties. These recreational areas provide us an opportunity to know our neighbors. Another obvious positive to open space is their impact, or lack of, on the environment.
Knightdale is ideally located to bring in high-paying industry and business. With today’s traffic congestion and transportation funding shortfalls, to have these jobs locally would better the lives of the citizens of Knightdale. Richy will work to bring these types of jobs to Knightdale.
