OFFICE FOR WHICH YOU ARE RUNNING: Knightdale Town Council Member

NAME: Milton Hotard

AGE: 50

OCCUPATION: Software Engineer, Square D

EDUCATION: A.S., electronics, Delgado College, New Orleans, 1980

POLITICAL PARTY AND EXPERIENCE: Unaffiliated. Candidate for Knightdale Town Council in 2005.

CIVIC ACTIVITIES AND OTHER AFFILIATIONS: Planters Walk Community Watch block captain; webmaster and supporter of Knightdale C.A.R.E.; LPNC Judicial Committee member, 2006; Wake LP Treasurer, 2005.

WHY SHOULD YOU BE ELECTED? I will represent all of the people of Knightdale, each and every one of us. The most important thing I learned by running for this office before is how to listen to people. From that, I've learned how important it is to find solutions that are acceptable to all of our citizens while Ensuring that everyone's individual and property rights are acknowledged and respected. I will study the issues and seek advice from all sides so that reasonable and agreeable solutions can be reached with other members of the council, developers and, most importantly, the citizens of Knightdale.

1. What, if anything, should Knightdale do to lure more industrial and commercial development to broaden its property tax base?

Knightdale does not have to lure commercial development; every developer in the world wants to put a store here. I believe it's important that we follow the town's development plan (UDO) so the town grows in a sensible, balanced manner.

2. Should Knightdale reinstate or drop its cap on the number of affordable-housing apartments that can be built here? Why?

The cap should be kept in place until we can better evaluate the town's capacity to support any residential development, especially high-density development. I think we all have good reason to be concerned about the real available supply of water now and into the future.
