Paul Terrell, Republican Candidate for State House
District 33
The Party Line sat down with Paul Terrell to discuss his campaign
for State Representative of District 33.
The Party Line:
Thank you for joining us today.
Paul Terrell:
Thank you for having me. Good luck with your newsletter.
TPL:
Education has been noted as a major issue for your campaign. What
type of change do you hope to bring about?
PT:
The money the state is apparently spending on the education budget
is NOT getting down to the educators. The principals and teachers
are not getting the resources that are needed to educate our
greatest resource, our children. Somewhere there is a disconnection
that has me worried for the future of our children, state and
country. The money can be better spent keeping North Carolina’s teachers home and allowing
them to further themselves in both education and professional
abilities.
TPL:
Do you advocate a state income tax cut?
PT:
Yes,
taxing citizens fairly has been proven to stimulate the economy and
create more jobs. Burdensome taxes have been proven to create local
and national recessions to include job losses. We can tax smartly
and easily pay for the responsibilities required of all of us.
TPL:
As people continue to move to
North Carolina transportation and
infrastructure remains an urgent issue. What are your plans to deal
with growth?
PT:
Our roads are not safe and the ones being built fall apart before
their time. D.O.T. needs to be reformed to take the decisions out of
the hands of political appointees and given to the professionals. We
need to have the roads built properly where they are needed and
going to be needed. Getting roads built in your district is not just
a right for members of North Carolina’s
D.O.T. board members; it is a right of all North Carolinians.
TPL:
Over the past several years it has been impossible to watch the news
or read the paper without seeing story of corruption within our
state government. How do you plan to change the environment in the
State House?
PT:
There are too many loop holes and interpretations of our current
ethics rules. The laws and rules need to be made perfectly clear
that we will not allow pay to pay of any kind. Open transparency is
a must that has to be instituted In order to keep our government
honest. Politicians and political appointees must abide by the
highest possible standard of any citizen in this state.
TPL:
How do you sum up the differences between you and Dan Blue, your
competitor?
PT:
Dan Blue is a representative who says one thing on the general
assembly’s floor about a particular bill and then votes along party
lines in opposition to his previous comments. I will be a
representative for all of district 33’s citizens and I will say what
I mean and do what I say.
TPL:
Thanks for spending some time with us today Paul. Good luck in
November.
PT:
Thank you. I enjoyed it.
And to our readers, we hope you will support Paul in the 2008
election.
