Mr. Scaruzzo
speaks of his plans for Zebulon:
"
Attracting Commercial /Industrial
development
The town’s role is major. This town is a
political tool to the Mayor’s wants. I
have big plans for Zebulon. I want 40
percent of the planning director’s job
to be contacting industries come in and
create new jobs everywhere, including
the downtown area, without raising
taxes. We’ve got to flat-out get up and
get the job done right. We have good,
smart employees in this town that are
poorly managed. They deserve a lot more.

Beautification/
Modernization of downtown
This is No. 2 on my
list. If the question included infrastructure it
would be No. 1. We have not bothered to ask better
of the people. I’m very concerned with downtown. We
need to give it a new meaning and pass legislation
on that meaning. We need to give surrounding people
a reason to come to downtown Zebulon, then they
would start to believe in it being a nice place to
live.
New industry versus small-town
businesses
It’s all a balance
of keeping most people happy. It is very important
to give the historic district, or downtown,
meaningful. I’ve been very good with this throughout
my life and career. We want the area to be
successful and then take it tow more step further.
The legacy of our downtown is grade-D right now. I
want this to be a safer, cleaner, better town — the
kind our children would be proud to call home.
Downtown is where this starts. The people here can
do great things for their community and families."
